Environmental test chamber selection should start with the stress applied to the test item, not with a product family's temperature range. Temperature and humidity, controlled temperature change, thermal shock, reduced pressure, and climatic conditions combined with vibration are different test tasks. Similar temperature endpoints do not make the equipment interchangeable.

First define which conditions must reach the test item, whether they act simultaneously or in sequence, and how quickly they must change. This identifies the chamber family. The loaded arrangement, interfaces, operating state and site limits then determine the final configuration.

Why Temperature Range Alone Is Not Enough

A controlled temperature-change profile and an abrupt hot/cold transition apply different stresses to the test item. Adding humidity, reduced pressure or vibration changes the equipment requirement again. Define the stress, sequence and transition method first; then compare temperature range, workspace and performance against a specific model under its stated operating conditions.

Match the Test Stress to the Chamber Family

Temperature and Humidity: Control Both Conditions

When temperature and relative humidity must be controlled together, a Temperature Humidity Test Chamber is the first family to evaluate.

Across relevant SANWOOD temperature-humidity configurations, nominal workspaces range from 80 to 1,000 L. Depending on the selected model, temperature options extend from -70°C to +180°C, while selected configurations cover 10% to 98% RH. A dynamic-balance control approach regulates temperature and humidity output as conditions change. Rapid Temperature Change: Define the Profile

A controlled temperature-change profile may require a Rapid Temperature Change Test Chamber.

Selected SANWOOD configurations provide nominal heating and cooling rates from 5°C/min to 25°C/min, with temperature options extending from -70°C to +180°C. The control system can compensate for heat released by an operating test item to help follow the programmed profile during environmental stress screening. The proposal must still define the rate basis, temperature interval and test load; a catalog rate should not be treated as the actual performance of a loaded test item.

Thermal Shock: Define How the Transition Occurs

When the test requires an abrupt transition between hot and cold conditions, review a Thermal Shock Chamber.

SANWOOD provides two-zone systems that move the test item between hot and cold zones, as well as three-zone systems that keep the test item stationary while switching the airflow path. For selected two-zone configurations, the basket-drive mechanism can transfer the test item between zones within 10 seconds under the stated test method. Depending on the configuration, high-temperature zones extend from +150°C to +200°C, while low-temperature zones extend from -10°C down to -65°C or below. Transfer time, exposure time and temperature recovery remain separate selection requirements.

Altitude: Treat Pressure as a Separate Condition

When reduced atmospheric pressure is part of the test, review an Altitude Test Chamber.

SANWOOD altitude chamber configurations extend from atmospheric pressure down to 0.5 kPa. The pressure-control and temperature systems work with door-compression devices and temperature-resistant seals to maintain the specified chamber conditions. Selected models use a six-level safety-interlock architecture that can include pressure-tolerance protection, overtemperature protection and excessive-vacuum alarms. Selected configurations can also record the temperature-pressure sequence at sampling intervals down to one second and support USB data export. State whether pressure and temperature must act together; the usable combination, duration, protection architecture and logging functions remain model-specific.

AGREE: Define the Combined Stresses

When climatic conditions and vibration must be applied together or in a defined sequence, review an AGREE Test Chamber or Temperature Humidity Vibration Chamber configuration.

The chamber can be integrated with an electrodynamic or hydraulic vibration system. Available axes, frequency ranges and control methods depend on the selected shaker, fixture arrangement and test orientation; multi-axis testing should not be assumed from the chamber alone. The Chamber Family Is Only the First Decision

External dimensions do not define the required workspace. The loaded arrangement may include supports, fixtures, cable-bending space, monitoring connections and working clearance. Multiple samples can require a different chamber from a single test item, even when their total volume appears similar.

Also identify whether the test item will operate under power, how it will be loaded and removed, which utilities are available, and whether the project has additional safety requirements. These details determine whether to review a standard chamber, a modified configuration or a walk-in system.
