Once mentioned Dragon Boat Festival, what you may think of?

As we all know, Dragon Boat racing and eating Zongzi is our folk custom. But Chinese famous patriotic poet Qu Yuan is rarely known by people. In fact, there is something behind those. They are mutually connected.

Qu Yuan, who was regarded as one of greatest poets in Chinese history. He had written a lot of works to express his sense of patriotism. He chose to drown himself rather than seeing his country invaded and conquered by State of Qin. 

It is said that dragon boat racing is originated from the idea of people who rowed their boats to save Qu Yuan and now it has turned to be a famous sport event. 

And why has the custom eating Zongzi on Dragon boat festival?

It is also related to Qu Yuan. As the legend says that lumps of rice were thrown into the river just in case fish eating his drowned body.
