     IP Ingress Protection Introduction

IP ingress protection refer to below test standard:
IEC60529,DIN40050-9,ISO20653,IS016750,GB4208,GB/T10485-2007

1.Range;
IP ingress test with number from 1 to 8 means water ingress code from IPX1 to IPX8.
2.Water ingress test method:

(1).IPX1
Test method: Vertical drop test
Test equipment:Drop test devices and test method
Specimens placed:Put the test specimens at 1r/min rotation table as normal working position, keep the distance between the top of the sample and drop nozzle no more than 200mm.
Test condition: drop water volume 1.0+0.5mm/min
Test time: Last for 10 min

(2)IPX2
Test method : 15°to vertical drop test
Test equipment:Drop test devices and test method
Specimens placed: Put test specimens left 15°to vertical
keep the distance between the top of the sample and drop nozzle no more than 200mm.4 faces of sample uniform exposure.
Test condition: drop water volume 3.0+0.5mm/min
Test time:4*2.5mm  10 min

(3).IPX3
Test method:Rain Test

a.Swing type rain test
Test equipment: Swing type spray and splash test
Specimens placed: Choose the proper diameter of swing tube, make the height of the rotation table within diameter of swing tube,keep the distance between the top of the sample and drop nozzle no more than 200mm, sample table do not rotate.
Test condition:Water spray volume calculated by tube spray hole, each hole 0.07L/min.Do the spray test, each spray hole form 60°angle spray the water to test specimens. Test specimens is placed at center of swing tube, the tube swing on both sides of the vertical for 60 ° ,total 120 ° .Each swing (2*120 ° ) need 4s.
Test pressure:400Kpa
Test time: Continuous spraying 10 min, test specimens rotate 90 °after 5 min test.

b.Spray type rain test
Test equipment: hand held type spray and splash rain test
Specimens placed: Keep the parallel distance between top of specimens and spray nozzle from 300mm to 500mm.
Test condition: Install the baffle to balance weight, water volume 10L/min
Test time: Calculated by specimens enclosure superficial area , 1min each square meter, at least 5 min.

(4) IPX4
Test method:Splash test

a.Swing type splash test
Test equipment and specimens placed:Choose the proper diameter of swing tube, make the height of the rotation table within diameter of swing tube,keep the distance between the top of the sample and drop nozzle no more than 200mm, sample table do not rotate.
Test condition:Water spray volume calculated by tube spray hole, each hole 0.07L/min.Do the spray test, each spray hole form 90°angle spray the water to test specimens. Test specimens is placed at center of swing tube, the tube swing on both sides of the vertical for 180 ° ,total 360 ° .Each swing (2*360 ° ) need 12s.
Test time: 10 min

b.Spray nozzle splash test
Test equipment:hand held type spray and splash rain test
Specimens placed: Remove the baffle , keep the parallel distance between top of specimens and spray nozzle from 300mm to 500mm.
Test condition: Install the baffle to balance weight, water volume 10L/min
Test time: Calculated by specimens enclosure superficial area , 1min each square meter, at least 5 min.

(5)IPX4K
Test method: Swing type spray test with pressure
Test equipment: Swing tube spray test
Specimens placed: Choose the proper diameter of swing tube, make the height of the rotation table within diameter of swing tube,keep the distance between the top of the sample and drop nozzle no more than 200mm, sample table do not rotate.
Test condition:Water spray volume calculated by tube spray hole, each hole 0.6±0.5L/min.Spray area form by 90 ° angle arc spray the water to test specimens. Test specimens is placed at center of swing tube, the tube swing on both sides of the vertical for 180 ° ,total 360 ° .Each swing (2*360 ° ) need 12s.
Test pressure:400Kpa
Test time: test specimens rotate 90 °after 5 min test.
Ps:Swing tube have 121 pcs diameter 0.5mm hole
1 hole at center
Center area have 2 layer of spray hole( each layer have 12 pcs hole, locate at 30°
Outside area 4 layer (each layer 24 pcs hole, each locate15 °)

Test method: Water Spray Test
Test equipment:Spray nozzle diameter is 6.3mm
Test condition:keep the distance between test specimens and spray nozzle 2.5 to 3 m. Water volume12.5L/min(750L/h)
Test time:Calculated by specimens enclosure superficial area , 1min each square meter, at least 3 min.

(7)IPX6
Test method:Strong water spray test
Test equipment:Spray nozzle diameter is 12.5mm
Test condition:keep the distance between test specimens and spray nozzle 2.5 to 3 m. Water volume100L/min(6000L/h)
Test time:Calculated by specimens enclosure superficial area , 1min each square meter, at least 3 min.

(8)IPX7
Test method: Immersion test
Test equipment: Immersion tank
Test condition: Put test sample into water tank,the distance between bottom of sample and water surface at least 1m, and top of sample to water surface at least 0.15m.
Test time: 30 min

(9)IPX8
Test method: Continuous immersion test
Test condition and test equipment based on test requirements

(10)IPX9K
Test method: High pressure spray test
Test equipment: Spray nozzle diameter is
Test condition:Spray angel:0 °,30 ° ,60 ° ,90 ° (4 position)
Spray hole number:4
Specimens rotation rate:5±1 r.p.m, distance:100 to 150mm,each position 30s, water flow 14 to 16L/min.
Spray water pressure 8000 to 1000kpa.
Water temperature: 80±5 ° c
Test time: 30*4 =120S
